EAComMike has posted a Community Update for Battlefield: Vietnam. This reveals that the next patch for BF:V (1.02) will be released next week already. It also speaks a little about some of the mods that are currently in development. Right below you can see the entire update:
6/4/04 - Community Update
Battlefield Vietnam Update 1.02 Coming Next Week DICE has been able to track down the Crash to Desktop issue that has been reported by the members of our community since the 1.01 update. We will be releasing a new BFV update that addresses this issue next week. Please note that this update is meant only to address the Crash to Desktop issue (along with a related disconnect issue).
More 1.1 Details! Meanwhile, DICE has been hard at work on moving the 1.1 update forward. Today we are featuring a screenshot from "The Defense of Con Thien", the free map bundled with 1.1. The view below is from the middle of the DMZ (or Demilitarized Zone), and takes in the desolation of the area as well as the NVA defenses above. As you can see, the DMZ is a killing zone, littered with the wreckage of downed vehicles and surrounded at both ends by artillery pieces, stationary machine guns and watchtowers (US-owned defenses are not pictured). Not a safe place to venture on foot, the DMZ is best crossed in vehicles and in force (lest you catch a bullet in your brain pan).
Mod Update - HomeFront Mod Previously released for Battlefield 1942, this science-fiction-war mod is moving to the Battlefield Vietnam engine and is screaming towards its first release. The HomeFront mod team has been gracious enough to provide us with some screenshots from the current beta version in the engine, which are being seen here for the first time!
In the first screen below, you are seeing Covenant Wasteland, a level based on an alien world. You can learn more about this level, and view a video of game play on CW here: HomeFront Mod
In the second screen, the HomeFront team presents the UNSC PTboat. This vehicle has one very powerful main gun, 2 mounted side guns (stationary MA5Bs), and 3 open positions from which players can use their kit weapons. This is one tough boat, and very fast, but it does not provide much protection for the crew. The lack of protection is made up for in firepower, however.
For more information on this mod, head to the HomeFront Mod web site. And a HUGE thanks to BGT and his team for the screens!
We at EA and DICE are very excited to see mod teams building content for BFV and we hope you all will join us in playing the HomeFront mod when it releases. Stay tuned to the Battlefield Community Update for more Mod Updates throughout the summer.
Mod Team Assistance In moving around the mod community and talking to folks who are building content for Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam, we've found a couple of teams that don't know about one of the most valuable resources available to the community -- the forums at www.planetbattlefield.com/mdt moderated by the great Rexman himself. If you're having a problem getting something to work in your mod, chances are someone there can help you with it. Give it a try!
